Guide to Primary Care

Modern general practice is delivered by a range of healthcare professionals supporting the doctors. We are a member of Picton Primary Care Network, allowing our patients the additional support of a team including Clinical Pharmacists, Mental Health Practitioners and Physiotherapists.

Here's a guide to the type of clinician you might encounter at Sefton Park Medical Centre.

GP Partners
Dr O'Brien and Dr Lipton are also partners in the practice. This means they are owners of the business that is contracted to provide General Medical Services under contract to the NHS. As well as seeing patients the Partners have to make time to look after the management and administration of the practice.
Salaried GPs
Three of our GPs are salaried GPs. These GPs are permanent members of the clinical team but do not have their own list of registered patients.
Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs)
Advanced Nurse Practitioners are Registered Nurses who have done extra training and academic qualifications to be able to examine, assess, make diagnoses, treat, prescribe, and make referrals for patients.
Physician Associates
Physician associates (PAs) are healthcare professionals with a generalist medical education who work alongside doctors providing medical care as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. PAs work under the supervision of a doctor but can work autonomously with appropriate support.
